Getting started with vDPO

vDPO is a privacy compliance workspace for Data Protection Officers (DPOs), privacy consultants, lawyers and compliance teams. It helps you run each client’s data protection programme, from the first gap analysis to the registers you keep every day.

What you can do without an account

What you can do with an account

  • Create a free privacy policy for your own practice with the privacy policy generator.
  • Buy vDPO Proof credits and record proofs.
  • With the Learner or SaaS Edition, work in client workspaces and use vDPO Auditor and vDPO Advisor. See Account, plans and payments.

Your first client in five steps

  1. Add a client. Go to Clients, choose Add client, and enter its name and sector. Choose a practice client to learn, or a real client for actual work. See Clients.
  2. Choose the laws that apply. The controls you work through come from these laws. See Choosing the applicable laws.
  3. Run the gap analysis, if the client’s sector has one. Its gaps become findings in the risk register. See Gap analysis.
  4. Work through the compliance modules. Tick each control that is in place, add notes, and mark controls that do not apply. See Compliance modules and controls.
  5. Check the report. The Reports page shows where the client stands and lets you download a report. See Dashboard and reports.

Finding your way around

The top menu takes you to your workspace, the tools, the law library and other resources. Inside a client, the menu on the left lists everything for that client: Reports, Applicable Laws, Gap Analysis, Data Inventory, the registers and the sixteen compliance modules. Every workspace page has a Help link at the bottom of that menu that opens the article for the page you are on.

vDPO is a compliance tool, not legal advice. Its controls, scores and generated documents support your professional judgement; they do not replace it.
